A Husband's Perspective - Tick Borne Illness

Updated: Jul 5, 2021

Panic. Fear. Helplessness. What do you tell your 20-year-old, when she tells you, "I don't want to die?" Gut punch-- When you get that call from your daughter telling you she thinks she's having a heart attack. What the hell-- When we hear her blood pressure and heart rate are on an 8-hour rollercoaster ride only to be told by the ER doctor, "We have run all the tests we can"…have you? We think it might be her thyroid or it could be something wrong with her heart--You think?--How can you not know?! She is in pain. She is panicking. Renée and I are at a loss. The world is spinning out of control…. all on top of the COVID pandemic.

Control. Research. Encouragement. Wellness. Renée and I both come to the same conclusion. Tick borne illness! As Renée described, our entire family has battled the great imposter before. Could this be happening again? Is this a new manifestation? How did she get re-infected? Did it ever go away? We must control the next steps. We have been let down too many times! Oh crap, our tick-borne illness practitioner was forced out of business by COVID. Research. Find a new doctor. Research. Can tick-borne illness cause our daughter’s symptoms? Results are back. Relief. Anger. Doctor comments, "Wow you have a lot of markers for Lyme." OK. We know what we are battling! What the hell--Why didn’t the ER find this…? Let it go, we need to focus on the positive. Control the symptoms. Control the illness. Long weeks, but we battle it as a family. We win again!

Renée is an incredible wife, mother and life partner. Renée has worked in the medical field for over 30 years. She strives daily to bring a smile to her patient’s lives, while providing encouragement whenever possible. Renée’s positive outlook has changed many lives, starting with my own. Tick Talk is an amazing story which shines light on the impact of tick-borne illnesses, and the hopeless feeling which we all experience until it is diagnosed and hopefully controlled. If Renée can help one person shine a spotlight on and recover from the great imposter, I know it will be all worth it to her. You are my rock Renée!

If Tick Talk resonated with you or your family, please send Renée a comment or share on Amazon. In order to beat Lyme and other co-infections, we need to do this together! --Brian
